In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
